Hello!! foodies!!! Today I am making dal makhani recipe in english. Dal makhani is a traditional dish of Punjab and is commonly known as maa ki dal. We call it kali dal as well because it is made of black gram (urad dal).
This recipe is very healthy and tasty as it gives the flavour of indian spices , indian pulses and the love and smell of our India. This recipe is the main source of protein.
It contains healthy ingredients like kidney beans and grams. We should to eat pulses daily at least once. That's why I am sharing this recipe with you all food lovers.
So let's start the making dal makhani recipe in english. I am adding cream in it , you can make dal makhani without cream also. I am making kali dal in restuarant style.

DAL MAKHANI RECIPE
Preparation time : 60 MINUTES

Ingredients for dal makhani :-
Urad dal (black gram) 200 gramsRajma (kidney beans) 100 grams
Butter 100 grams
Salt to taste
Red chilli powder 2 tsp
Fenugreek leaves 1 pinch
Dried red chilli 2 whole (optional)
Asafoetida 1 pinch (optional)
Ginger finely chopped 1/2 handful
Garlic fine chopped 1/2 handful
Onion fine chopped 1cup
Cumins 2 pinch
Green chillies 8-10
Garam masala powder 1 tsp
Tomato medium size 2
Coriander leaves finely chopped
Ginger finely chopped 1/2 handful
Garlic fine chopped 1/2 handful
Onion fine chopped 1cup
Cumins 2 pinch
Green chillies 8-10

Fresh cream 100 ml (optional)

Dal makhani recipe in english :-
- First of all soak black gram and kidney beans for 8 to 10 hours or overnight.
- Now cook it in a pressure cooker till 8 to 9 whistles. Wait for 5 minutes afterward till the air pressure blows up.
- Again cook the pulses in the cooker for at least 30 minutes at low flame without covering. It will make the dal makhani creamy in texture.
- After 30 minutes take a pan and add butter into it.
- Add cumin seeds , fine chopped ginger and fine chopped garlic and saute for 1 minute.
- Add fine chopped onions and saute it till light brown.
- Now add red chilli powder , fine chopped green chillies fine chopped tomatoes and salt as per taste and cook it properly for 5 minutes at medium flame.
- When the oil start floating above the gravy then add cooked pulses into it and mix it continuosly.
- Now cook all this for 5 minutes on high flame, then put of the gas flame.
- Your maa ki dal is ready , just give it a final touch by tempering it.
- heat a tempering pan and add 1 tbsp butter with 1 pinch of cumin , asafoetida and 2 dried red chilli.
- Let it crackle , after that pour it in our kali dal.
- sprinkle some garam masala powder , add fresh cream , crushed fenugreek leavesh and garnish it with some fine chopped coriander leaves.
- Mix well.
- Dal makhni/ kali dal/ maa ki dal is ready :)
- Serve it hot with chappati , naan , stuffed naan or biryani.
